এই সালাল বাঁধকে সংলগ্ন করে গড়ে উঠেছে জলবিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র। এটি ছিল সিন্ধু জল চুক্তির অধীনে জম্মু ও কাশ্মীরে ভারত কর্তৃক নির্মিত প্রথম জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্প।
নদীতে জমেছে পলি সঙ্গে নদীর জলের প্রবাহতেও হয়েছে বৃদ্ধি। হাওয়া অফিসের তথ্য অনুসারে জুনেই ভারতে ঢুকছে বর্ষা, তাই আগেভাগেই প্রস্তুতি সেরে নিতে খুলে দেওয়া হল সালাল বাঁধের গেট। জম্মু ও কাশ্মীর উপত্যকার রিয়াসি জেলার সালাল গ্রামের উপর চেনাব নদীর উপর তৈরি সালাল বাঁধ। এই সালাল বাঁধকে সংলগ্ন করে গড়ে উঠেছে জলবিদ্যুৎ কেন্দ্র। এটি ছিল সিন্ধু জল চুক্তির অধীনে জম্মু ও কাশ্মীরে ভারত কর্তৃক নির্মিত প্রথম জলবিদ্যুৎ প্রকল্প।
