জাপান ও উত্তর কোরিয়ার মধ্যে বিশ্বকাপের কোয়ালিফায়ার ম্যাচটি বাতিল করে দিল ফিফা (FIFA)। আগামীকাল (২৬ মার্চ) পিয়ংইয়ং-এ এটি অনুষ্ঠিত হওয়ার কথা ছিল।উত্তর কোরিয়া জানিয়েছে, তারা এই ম্যাচের আয়োজন করতে পারবে না। এই ঘোষণার প্রেক্ষিতে ফিফা জানায়, খেলার আন্তর্জাতিক কর্মসূচি অনুযায়ী অন্যত্র ম্যাচটি সরানোর আপাতত কোনো সুযোগ নেই। এর আগে শুক্রবার, এএফসি জেনারেল সেক্রেটারি উইন্ডসর জন এএফপিকে বলেছিলেন যে খেলাটি পিয়ংইয়ং এ না হলে একটি নিরপেক্ষ ভেন্যুতে খেলানোর চেষ্টা চলছে। তবে ২৩ তারিখ এএফসি এক বিবৃতিতে জানায় কোরিয়া এবং জাপানের মধ্যকার ম্যাচটি যেটি ২৬শে মার্চ খেলার কথা সেটি অপ্রত্যাশিত পরিস্থিতির কারণে নির্ধারিত সময়ে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে না।"
