এদিকে, দুর্ঘটনায় মৃতের সংখ্যা বেড়ে দাঁড়িয়েছ ৯। আহত হয়েছেন কমপক্ষে ৩৬ জন। তাঁদের উত্তরবঙ্গ মেডিক্যাল কলেজ, ময়নাগুড়ি গ্রামীণ হাসপাতাল ও জলপাইগুড়ি সুপার স্পেশালিটি হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসা চলছে।
জলপাইগুড়ির ময়নাগুড়ির দোমহনিতে ট্রেন দুর্ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছলেন রেলমন্ত্রী অশ্বিনী বৈষ্ণব (Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw)। ট্রলিতে চেপে ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করেন। এরপর বলেছেন, "তদন্ত শুরু করা হয়েছে। প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদী পরিস্থিতি পর্যবেক্ষণ করছেন। আমার সঙ্গে তাঁর যোগাযোগ রয়েছে। আহতদের দ্রুত আরোগ্য কামনা করছি।" গতরাতেই হাওড়া স্টেশনে পৌঁছে যান রেলমন্ত্রী। তার পর বিশেষ ট্রেনে করে ময়নাগুড়ির দুর্ঘটনাস্থলের উদ্দেশে রওনা হন।
