আজ মহাত্মা গান্ধীর ১৫৬ তম জন্মবার্ষিকী, সেই উপলক্ষে আজ বিশ্বব্যাপী আন্তর্জাতিক অহিংসা দিবস পালিত হচ্ছে। ২০০৭ সালের জুন মাসে, রাষ্ট্রসংঘের সাধারণ পরিষদ অহিংসাকে একটি সার্বজনীন নীতি হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি প্রদান করে। বিশ্বব্যাপী শান্তি ও সহিষ্ণুতার সংস্কৃতি প্রসারের জন্য একটি প্রস্তাব গৃহীত হয়। এই উপলক্ষ্যে আজ নিউইয়র্কে রাষ্ট্রসংঘে ভারতের স্থায়ী মিশন আন্তর্জাতিক অহিংসা দিবসের বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করবে।
