ঘুম থেকে উঠেই কম্পন অনুভব করল দ্বীপরাষ্ট্র নিউজিল্যান্ড। আজ (২৫ মার্চ, মঙ্গলবার) সকালে নিউজিল্যান্ডের রিভারটন উপকূলে একটি শক্তিশালী ভূমিকম্প হয়েছে। ইউনাইটেড স্টেটস জিওলজিক্যাল সার্ভে (USGS) অনুসারে, রিখটার স্কেলে এই ভূমিকম্পের তীব্রতা ছিল ৬.৫ থেকে ৬.৮।ভূমিকম্পের কেন্দ্রটি ১৫৯ কিলোমিটার পশ্চিম-দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমে, ১০ কিলোমিটার (6.21 মাইল) গভীরতায় অবস্থিত ছিল। যদিও ভূমিকম্পের কারণে কোনো ক্ষয়ক্ষতির খবর পাওয়া যায়নি, তবে কম্পনের ফলে এলাকায় বিশৃঙ্খলা তৈরি হয়েছে।
উল্লেখ্য যে নিউজিল্যান্ড ভূমিকম্প সংবেদনশীল অঞ্চল, তাই মাঝে মাঝেই তীব্র ভূমিকম্প লক্ষ্য করা যায়।তাই ভূমিকম্প মোকাবেলায় সরকার সর্বদা প্রস্তুত রয়েছে।
