কাবুল বিস্ফোরণের সঙ্গে তালিবানের কোনও যোগ নেই। ফলে কাবুলে যে বিস্ফোরণ হয়েছে, তার সঙ্গে তালিবান কোনওভাবেই জড়িত নয়। এমনই দাবি করা হচ্ছে তালিবানের তরফে। তবে বিস্ফোরণের পর যে তথ্য হাতে আসছে, সেখান থেকে প্রমাণিত, এই বিস্ফোরণের সঙ্গে জড়িত এইএস-কে। তবে আইএস-কে-র সঙ্গে যে তালিবান এবং হক্কানি নেটওয়ার্কের যোগ রয়েছে, তা সম্প্রতি বহুবার সামনে এসেছে বলে জানান আফগানিস্তানের অন্তবর্তী রাষ্ট্রপতি আমরুল্লাহ সালেহ।
