নয়াদিল্লিঃ কেরলে ‘মস্তিষ্কখেকো’ অ্যামিবার (Amoeba Outbreak) থাবায় মৃতের সংখ্যা বেড়ে ১৯। একের পর এক মৃত্যুতে আতঙ্ক ছড়িয়েছে এই রাজ্যে। শীঘ্রই এটি মহামারিতে পরিণত হতে পারে বলে আশঙ্কা। এই অ্যামিবা জল থেকে নাকের মাধ্যমে দেহে প্রবেশ করছে বলে জানিয়েছেন বিশেষজ্ঞরা। সরাসরি মস্তিষ্কে পৌঁছে সেখানেই দ্রুত বংশবিস্তার করে তারা। রাজ্যের স্বাস্থ্যমন্ত্রী বীণা জর্জ এই প্রসঙ্গে বলেন, "বিরল এই রোগ নিয়ে আমরা প্রত্যেকেই উদ্বিগ্ন। প্রথম কোঝিকোড় এবং মালাপ্পুরমের মতো জেলাগুলিতে এই রোগ দেখা গিয়েছিল। কিন্তু এখন রাজ্যজুড়ে বিক্ষিপ্তভাবে ছড়াচ্ছে এই রোগ। রোগীদের মধ্যে তিন মাস বয়সি শিশু থেকে রয়েছে ৯১ বছর বয়সি বৃদ্ধ। এটি মহামারিতে পরিণত হতে পারে।”
