আগামী সোমবার থেকে শুরু হচ্ছে বছরের শেষ গ্র্যান্ডস্লাম টেনিস টুর্নামেন্ট 'ইউএস ওপেন 2024'। চলতি বছর নোভাক জকোভিচ কোনও গ্র্যান্ডস্লাম জিততে পারেন কি না সেটাই মূল আগ্রহ এবারের ইউএস ওপেনের। এবার ইউএস ওপেনে ফেভারিট হিসেনে নামছেন স্পেনের কার্লোস আলকারাজ। আলকারাজ চলতি বছর দুটি গ্র্যান্ডস্লাম জিতে ফেলেছেন (ফরাসি ওপেন এবং উইম্বলডন)। অন্যদিকে, প্যারিস অলিম্পিকে পুরুষদের সিঙ্গলসে সোনা জয়ের পর তাঁর ২৫তম গ্র্যান্ডস্লাম জয়ের লক্ষ্যে ঝাঁপাবেন সার্বিয়ান কিংবদন্তি জকোভিচ।

এদিকে, সিঙ্গলসে ভারতের একমাত্র চ্যালেঞ্জ সুমিত নাগাল। প্রথম রাউন্ডে সুমিতের প্রতিপক্ষ নেদারল্যান্ডসের টালন গ্রিকস্পোর। বিশ্বের ৪০ নম্বর ডাচ প্রতিপক্ষের বিরুদ্ধে এটিপি ব়্যাঙ্কিংয়ে ৭২ তম স্থানে থাকা সুমিত এর আগে একবার খেলে হেরেছিলেন।
