পুলিশ জানায় শ্রমিকরা সেঙ্গামালাপট্টির সুদর্শন ফায়ারওয়ার্কস ইউনিটে আতশবাজি তৈরি করছিলেন, হঠাৎই দুপুর আড়াইটার দিকে বিস্ফোরণ ঘটে। খবর পেয়েই পুলিশ ও ফায়ার সার্ফিস কর্মীরা ঘটনাস্থলে উপস্থিত হন।
গতকাল (৯ মে) শিবকাশীতে একটি আতশবাজি তৈরির কারখানায় বিস্ফোরণে ছয় মহিলা সহ নয়জন শ্রমিকের মৃত্যু হয়। গুরুতর আহত হন প্রায় ১৩ জন। পুলিশ জানায় শ্রমিকরা সেঙ্গামালাপট্টির সুদর্শন ফায়ারওয়ার্কস ইউনিটে আতশবাজি তৈরি করছিলেন, হঠাৎই দুপুর আড়াইটার দিকে বিস্ফোরণ ঘটে। খবর পেয়েই পুলিশ ও ফায়ার সার্ফিস কর্মীরা ঘটনাস্থলে উপস্থিত হন। প্রথমে আটজনের মৃত্যুর খবর আসলেও বিস্ফোরণের পরে একজন শ্রমিক নিখোঁজ হওয়ার খবর পাওয়া গেছিল, গভীর রাতে তার মৃতদেহ পাওয়া গেছে বলে এসপি জানিয়েছেন।
ঘটনায় নিহতদের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জানিয়ে এক্স হ্যান্ডেলে প্রধানমন্ত্রী তাঁর বার্তা জানিয়েছেন।
