প্রাক্তন প্রধানমন্ত্রী নওয়াজ শরীফের রাজনীতিতে ফিরে আসার পথ প্রশস্ত করতে পাকিস্তানের নির্বাচনী আইন বদলাতে চলেছে তদানীন্তন সরকার। আইনে বদল আনতে শেহবাজ শেরিফের নেতৃত্বাধীন পাকিস্তান সরকার একটি নির্বাচন (সংশোধনী) আইন ২০২৩ পাস করেছে। বর্তমানে সেনেটের অনুমোদনের পর, জাতীয় পরিষদও নতুন আইনে সম্মতি দিয়েছে যা পাকিস্তানের নির্বাচন কমিশনকে ভোটের তারিখ নির্ধারণ করতে এবং যেকোনো আইন প্রণেতার অযোগ্যতাকে পাঁচ বছরের মধ্যে সীমাবদ্ধ করার একতরফা ক্ষমতা দিয়েছে।
