বাঙালি সংস্কৃতি প্রিয় শত শত মানুষ সমবেত হয়ে সূর্যোদয়ের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে গান গেয়ে বাংলা নববর্ষকে বরণ করে নেন
নিউইয়র্কের টাইমস স্কয়ারে প্রথমবারের মতো বাংলা নববর্ষ উদযাপন করেছেন বাংলাদেশি প্রবাসীরা। মানবতার মঙ্গল কামনায় বৈশাখের প্রথম দিন মঙ্গল শোভাযাত্রা বের করা হয়। বাঙালি জাতির ইতিহাসে প্রথমবারের মতো নিউইয়র্কের টাইম স্কয়ারে সূর্যোদয়ের মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলা নববর্ষকে স্বাগত জানান যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশি অভিবাসীরা। NRB ওয়ার্ল্ড ওয়াইডের সাধারণ সম্পাদক তোফাজ্জল লিটন, শতকন্ঠে বর্ষবরণের কোরস গানের মাধ্যমে বাংলা নববর্ষকে স্বাগত জানান। বাঙালি সংস্কৃতি প্রিয় শত শত মানুষ সমবেত হয়ে সূর্যোদয়ের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে গান গেয়ে বাংলা নববর্ষকে বরণ করে নেন। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিভিন্ন অঙ্গরাজ্য থেকে বাংলাদেশি অভিবাসীরা এ আয়োজনে যোগ দিয়েছেন। প্রত্যেকেরই স্বতঃস্ফূর্ত চেষ্টা ছিল নিজেদের ইতিহাসের অংশ করে নেওয়ার।
