ঠাণ্ডার পরোয়া নেই। হাড় কাঁপুনি ঠাণ্ডাতেই সোমবার মকর সংক্রান্তির সকালে গঙ্গাসাগরে (Gangasagar) শুরু হল গঙ্গাস্নান। মনস্কামনা পূরণে গঙ্গাসাগরে পুণ্যস্নানের উদ্দেশে প্রতি বছরের মতই লক্ষ লক্ষ পুণ্যার্থী ভিড় করেছে। গঙ্গাস্নান সেরে খোল, করতাল বাজিয়ে আরতিতে মত্ত হয়েছেন পুণ্যার্থীরা। যাবেন কপিল মুনির আশ্রমে পুজো দিতেও । নিরপত্তার চাদরে মুড়ে ফেলা হয়েছে মেলা চত্বর এবং সংলগ্ন এলাকাও। আকাশপথ এবং জলপথে চলছে পুলিশি নজরদারি।
