মুর্শিদাবাদ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের (Murshidabad University) নাম পরিবর্তন করে রাজা কৃষ্ণনাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (Raja Krishnath University) করার দাবি জানিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়কে (Mamata Banerjee) চিঠি লিখেলেন প্রদেশ কংগ্রেস সভাপতি অধীর চৌধুরী (Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury)। মুর্শিদাবাদের কাশিমবাজারের রাজা ছিলেন কৃষ্ণনাথ রায়। ১৮৪৪ সালের ৩১ অক্টোবর আত্মঘাতী হয়েছিলেন তিনি। ২০১৮ সালে পথচলা শুরু হয় মুর্শিদাবাদ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের। বহরমপুর কৃষ্ণনাথ কলেজে মুর্শিদাবাদ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পঠন পাঠন শুরু হয়েছে।
