রাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতা ও প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগের কারণে ২০২৪ সালের বিশ্ব অ্যাথলেটিকস অনূর্ধ্ব-২০ চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপের আয়োজক শহর হিসেবে নাম প্রত্যাহার করে নিয়েছে পেরুর লিমা। পেরুর অ্যাথলেটিকস ফেডারেশন বিশ্ব অ্যাথলেটিকসকে জানিয়েছে যে সাম্প্রতিক রাজনৈতিক অস্থিরতা এবং সামাজিক অস্থিরতা তাঁর সঙ্গে পেরুতে প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ, ফেডারেশন এবং স্থানীয় আয়োজক কমিটিকে আগামী বছর অনুষ্ঠানটি মঞ্চস্থ করতে অক্ষম করে ফেলেছে। পেদ্রো কাস্তিলোকে দেশটির প্রেসিডেন্টের পদ থেকে অপসারণ এবং তার ডেপুটি ডিনা বোলুয়ার্তে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর গত দুই মাসে পেরুতে বিক্ষোভ ও অস্থিরতার ঢেউ বয়ে গেছে। ২০২৪ সালের ২৬ থেকে ৩১ আগস্ট পেরুর রাজধানীতে অনূর্ধ্ব- ২০ বিশ্ব চ্যাম্পিয়নশিপ অনুষ্ঠিত হওয়ার কথা ছিল। ওয়ার্ল্ড অ্যাথলেটিক্সের পক্ষ থেকে জানানো হয়েছে, আগামী বছরের অনুষ্ঠানের জন্য বিকল্প আয়োজকের সঙ্গে আলোচনা চলছে এবং যথাসময়ে আরও তথ্য দেওয়া হবে।
