বিশ্বকাপ বাছাইয়ে নিষিদ্ধ খেলোয়াড়কে খেলানোয় দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার পয়েন্ট কেটে নেওয়ার পাশাপাশি জরিমানাও করেছে ফিফা।ঘটনাটি ঘটেছে গত মার্চে। ঘরের মাঠে লেসোথোর বিপক্ষে ২-০ ব্যবধানে জয়ের ম্যাচে ‘ভুলবশত’ তেবেহো মোকোয়েনাকে খেলিয়েছিল দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা। ‘সি’ গ্রুপে আগের দুই ম্যাচে হলুদ কার্ড দেখায় নিয়ম অনুযায়ী ওই ম্যাচে নিষিদ্ধ ছিলেন এই মিডফিল্ডার।

ফিফা সোমবার জানিয়েছে, তাদের শৃঙ্খলা কমিটি দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকাকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করে ৩ পয়েন্ট কেটে নেওয়ার পাশাপাশি ১০ হাজার সুইস ফ্রাঁ জরিমানা করেছে। আর ওই ম্যাচে লেসোথোকে ৩-০ গোলে জয়ী ঘোষণা করা হয়েছে।এর ফলে, দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকার ২০২৬ বিশ্বকাপে খেলা নিয়ে শঙ্কা জেগেছে। তাদের টপকে গ্রুপের শীর্ষে উঠেছে বেনিন। দুই দলের পয়েন্ট সমান ১৪ হলেও গোল পার্থক্যে বেনিন এগিয়ে আছে। গ্রুপ ফেভারিট নাইজেরিয়া ৩ পয়েন্টে পিছিয়ে তিনে আছে, রুয়ান্ডার সমান ১১ পয়েন্ট তাদের। বাকি আছে আর দুই রাউন্ড।
গ্রুপের শীর্ষ দল সরাসরি বিশ্বকাপে খেলার সুযোগ পাবে। গ্রুপ রানার্সআপকে বিশ্বকাপে যেতে হলে প্লে-অফের কঠিন বাধা পার হতে হবে।
