মে মাসে কর্ণাটক নির্বাচনের সময় বেঙ্গালুরুতে একটি সাংবাদিক সম্মেলনে শাহের বিরুদ্ধে আপত্তিকর মন্তব্যের জন্য রাহুল গান্ধীর বিরুদ্ধে ৪ অগস্ট, ২০১৮ তে অভিযোগ দায়ের করা হয়েছিল। গত ডিসেম্বরে আদালত গান্ধীর বিরুদ্ধে ওয়ারেন্ট জারি করে। পরবর্তীকালে, কংগ্রেস নেতা ২০ ফেব্রুয়ারি আমেঠিতে তার ভারত জোড়ো ন্যায় যাত্রা থামিয়ে দেন , আদালতে হাজির হন এবং জামিন পান। সেই মামলাতেই হাজিরা দিতে লখনউ বিমানবন্দরে পৌছালেন লোকসভার বিরোধী দলনেতা রাহুল গান্ধী।কেন্দ্রীয় স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী অমিত শাহ সম্পর্কে আপত্তিকর মন্তব্য করার অভিযোগে তার বিরুদ্ধে দায়ের করা মানহানির মামলায় তিনি সুলতানপুরের একটি আদালতে হাজির হবেন।
