রাশিয়া-ইউক্রেন যুদ্ধে প্রথম থেকে নিরপেক্ষতা বজায় রেখেছে ভারত। তার ফলে একদিকে যেমন রাশিয়ার সঙ্গেও সম্পর্ক ভালো রয়েছে, তেমনই আবার ইউক্রেনের সঙ্গে যে দুরত্ব সৃষ্টি হয়নি। শুক্রবার সেটাই স্পষ্ট বুঝিয়ে দিলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদী (Narendra Modi)। তৃতীয়বার কেন্দ্রে ক্ষমতায় আসার পর পুতিন, জেলেনস্কি (Volodymyr Zelenskyy) দুজনের তরফ থেকেই শুভেচ্ছাবার্তা পেয়েছেন তিনি। এমনকী শুক্রবার ইটালিতে অনুষ্ঠিত জি৭ বৈঠকে ইউক্রেনের রাষ্ট্রপতির সঙ্গে দ্বিপাক্ষিক বৈঠক করলেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী মোদী। এমনকী জেলেনস্কিকে দেখে করমর্দন করে বুকে জড়িয়ে ধরলেন নমো। এই বৈঠকে প্রধানমন্ত্রী ছাড়াও উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিদেশমন্ত্রী এস জয়শঙ্করও।
