মেলবোর্নে অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ওপেনের পুরুষদের ডাবলস বিভাগে আগেই ছিটকে গেছিলেন রোপন বোপান্না। ফলে এই প্রতিযোগিতায় টিকে থাকতে গেলে মিক্সড ডাবলসে ভালো কিছু করে দেখানোর তাগিদ ছিল। সেই ইচ্ছাশক্তিতে ভর করে অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ওপেনে মিক্সড ডাবলসের ইভেন্টে শুক্রবার সকালে নেমেছিলেন বোপান্না-সুয়াং জুটি।সেখানেই বিশ্বের প্রাক্তন ১ নম্বর ভারতীয় তারকা রোহন বোপান্না চিনের পার্টনার সুয়াং ঝ্যাংকে সঙ্গে করে জিতলেন প্রথম রাউন্ডের ম্যাচ।তাঁরা হারালেন কঠিন প্রতিপক্ষ ইভান দদিজ, ক্রিস্টিনা ম্লাডেনোভিচ জুটিকে। ইভান-ক্রিস্টিনা জুটিকে ভারতীয়-চিনা জুটি হারাল ৬-৪, ৬-৪ ফলে। প্রথম রাউন্ডের ম্যাচে জিতলেন নিয়ে দ্বিতীয় রাউন্ডে পৌঁছলেন ভারতীয় টেনিস তারকা।
