টানা কয়েক দিনের বৃষ্টির পর ৩০ জুলাই ভোর রাতের ভূমিধসে 'মৃত্যুপুরী'তে পরিণত হয়েছে ওয়েনাড় (Wayanad Landslides)। প্রায় নিশ্চিহ্ন হয়ে গিয়েছে চূড়ালমালা, মুন্ডাক্কাই, অট্টামালা সহ ওয়েনাড়ের কয়েকটি গ্রাম। কাদামাটিতে চাপা পড়ে মৃতের সংখ্যা সাড়ে তিনশো ছাড়িয়েছে। এখনও নিখোঁজ শতাধিক। চলছে উদ্ধারকাজ। শুক্রবার বিপর্যস্ত এলাকা পরিদর্শনে গিয়ে ওয়েনাড়ের প্রাক্তন সাংসদ রাহুল গান্ধী (Rahul Gandhi) ক্ষতিগ্রস্তদের আশ্বস্ত করে বলেছিলেন, সেখানে ১০০টি ঘর বানিয়ে দেবে কংগ্রেস। লোকসভার বিরোধী দলনেতার কথায় সিলমোহর দিলেন কর্ণাটকের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী সিদ্দারামাইয়া (Siddaramaiah)। শনিবার এক্স হ্যান্ডেল থেকে কেরলের মুখ্যমন্ত্রী পিনারাই বিজয়নকে আশ্বাস দিয়ে সিদ্দারামাইয়া লেখেন, ওয়ানাড়ের মর্মান্তিক ভূমিধসকে নজরে রেখে কর্ণাটক ক্ষতিগ্রস্তদের জন্যে ১০০টি ঘর বানিয়ে দেওয়ার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিচ্ছে।
