একটানা ২৫ বছর তিনি দেশের ক্ষমতা। কত দেশের রাষ্ট্রপ্রধানরা এসেছেন, আবার চলেও গিয়েছেন। কিন্তু রাশিয়ার ক্ষমতায় আড়াই দশক ধরে বসে আছেন ভ্লাদামির পুতিন (Vladimir Putin)। এর মধ্যে আমেরিকায় চারজন নতুন প্রেসিডেন্ট এসেছেন, গিয়েছেন, কিন্তু রাশিয়ায় সেই একজন। সবচেয়ে বেশী দিন ধরে রাশিয়ায় রাজত্ব করা ৭২ বছরের পুতিনের গলায় এবার শোনা গেল তাঁর উত্তরসূরি খোঁজার কথা। আড়াই বছর ধরে যুদ্ধ করে এখনও ইউক্রেনকে হারাতে পারেননি পুতিন। উল্টে রাশিয়ার অনেক ক্ষতি হয়ে গিয়েছে-বহু রুশ সেনা যুদ্ধে প্রাণ হারিয়েছেন, ইউরোপ পুরোপুরি একঘরে হয়ে অর্থনৈতিক দিক থেকে কোণঠাসা হয়েছে, দেশে বেড়েছে বেকারত্ব, মুদ্রাস্ফীতি। তবে পুতিনের দাবি, রাশিয়া এখন দুনিয়ার সবচেয়ে শক্তিশালী দেশ হয়ে উঠছে।
নিজের ২০২৪ রাশিয়ার প্রেসিডেন্ট নির্বাচনে ৮৭ শতাংশ ভোট পেয়ে জেতা পুতিন ২০২৮ সাল পর্যন্ত ক্ষমতায় থাকছেন। তখন তাঁর বয়স হবে ৭৫। পুতিন ইঙ্গিত দিলেন, তিনি প্রেসিডেন্ট পদ থেকে সরে দাঁড়ালে, বেশ কয়েকজন যোগ্য প্রার্থী আছেন, তাদের মধ্যে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা হবে।
