লস এঞ্জেলসের (Los Angeles) বিস্তীর্ণ অঞ্চল জ্বলছে। ক্যালিফোর্নিয়া (California), মালিবু (Malibu), আমেরিকার একাধিক অঞ্চল আগুনে ঘেরাটোপে। আগুনের গ্রাসে যেমন বাড়িঘর দাউ দাউ করে জ্বলতে শুরু করে, তেমনি সঙ্গী হাওয়া। হ্যারিকেনের গতিবেগে হাওয়া চলছে। যার জেরে ধিকিধিকি আগুন দাউ দাউ করে জ্বলার রূপ নিতে শুরু করেছে। মার্কিন মুলুকের বহু অঞ্চল দেখলে সেখানে কেউ বোমা ফেলেছে বলে মনে হবে। বাড়িঘর ভেঙেচুরে কার্যত ধ্বংসাবশেষে পরিণত হয়েছে। লস এঞ্জেলসের ওই সমস্ত অঞ্চল দেখলে, কেউ গাজা বলেই মনে করতে পারেন। তবে গাজা না হলেও, পুড়ে জ্বলে ছারখার হয়ে গিয়েছে।

দাবানলের জেরে ভয়াবহ পরিস্থিতি তৈরি হয়। যেখানে লস এঞ্জেলসে বসবাসকারী একটি পরিবার যখন ঘরের ভিতরে রয়েছে, সেই সময় তাঁদের বাড়িঘর দাউ দাউ করে জ্বলতে শুরু করে। ঘরের মধ্যে থেকেই তাঁরা আগুন দেখতে পান। অথচ ঘরের বাইরে বেরোলেও তাঁদের পুড়ে যাওয়ার আশঙ্কা বলে ঘরের ভিতরেই ভয়ে কুঁকড়ে যেতে দেখা যায় ওই পরিবারকে।
