আজ মহালয়া (Mahalaya 2022)। পিতৃপক্ষের (Pitru Paksha) অবসান, দেবীপক্ষের (Devi Paksha) শুরু। ভোর থেকেই তর্পণ (Tarpan) করার জন্য কলকাতার ঘাটে ঘাটে ভিড়। মহালয়ার ভোরে পূর্বপুরুষদের জলদান করাই হল তর্পণ। কলকাতার বাবুঘাট (Babughat), প্রিন্সেপ ঘাটে (Prinsep Ghat) প্রচুর মানুষ তর্পণ করেন ও পিণ্ডদান করেন।
