বুধবার ম্যাকেঞ্জি ম্যাকডোনাল্ডের (Mackenzie McDonald) কাছে ৬-৪, ৬-৪, ৭-৫ গেমে হেরে অস্ট্রেলিয়ান ওপেনের দ্বিতীয় রাউন্ড থেকে ছিটকে গেলেন রাফায়েল নাদাল (Rafael Nadal)। ৬৫তম র্যাঙ্কিয়ে ম্যাকডোনাল্ডের বিপক্ষে খেলায় যথেষ্ট সমস্যায় ছিলেন, এক কথায় শারীরিক ভাবে বিব্রত ছিলেন তিনি। সেই কারণে নাদালের সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গিয়েছিলেন সাইডলাইনে থাকা এক ট্রেনার, তার পর মেডিক্যাল টাইমআউটের জন্য কোর্ট ছাড়েন তিনি। তার খেলতে কষ্ট হওয়া দেখে দাঁড়িয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে তার স্ত্রী চোখের জল মুছলেন। নাদাল খেলতে ফিরেছিলেন কিন্তু খেলা ধরে রাখতে পারেননি আর। ২০১৬ সালে মেলবোর্নে ৪৫ নম্বর ফার্নান্দো ভার্দাস্কোর (Fernando Verdasco) বিরুদ্ধে প্রথম রাউন্ডে হেরে যাওয়ার পর কোনও গ্র্যান্ড স্ল্যাম টুর্নামেন্টে নাদালের এটাই প্রথম বিদায়।
