সকলকে চমকে দিয়ে এই বছরের শুরুতে তারকা ভারতীয় ক্রিকেটার রবিচন্দ্রন অশ্বিন তার আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট থেকে অবসর ঘোষণা করেছিলেন। এর পরেই ভারতবর্ষের ক্রীড়া জগতে এবং ভারতীয় ক্রিকেট দলে তাঁর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদানের জন্য মর্যাদাপূর্ণ পদ্মশ্রী পুরষ্কারে ভূষিত করা হবে বলে ঘোষণা করা হয়েছিল।গতকাল (সোমবার ২৮ এপ্রিল) রাষ্ট্রপতি ভবনে ছিল সেই পুরস্কার প্রদানের অনুষ্ঠান। রাষ্ট্রপতি দ্রৌপদী মুর্মু আর অশ্বিনকে পদ্মশ্রীতে ভূষিত করেন। ১০৬ টেস্টে ৫৩৭ উইকেট নিয়ে, অশ্বিন এই ফর্ম্যাটে ভারতের দ্বিতীয় সর্বোচ্চ উইকেট শিকারী।
