আইসিসি কর্তৃক আয়োজিত ১৯৯৯ ক্রিকেট বিশ্বকাপ ছিল সপ্তম আসর। ইংল্যান্ড দ্বারা আয়োজিত এই বিশ্বকাপের সহ-আয়োজক ছিল স্কটল্যান্ড, আয়ারল্যান্ড, ওয়েলস এবং নেদারল্যান্ডস। এই বিশ্বকাপে সহযোগী দল (Associate Country) হিসেবে ক্রিকেটে বিশ্বে আত্মপ্রকাশ ঘটে বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেটের। আজকের দিনে ২৪ বছর আগে তারা মুখোমুখি হয় ১৯৯২ সালের বিশ্বকাপ বিজেতা পাকিস্তানের সামনে। ১৯৯৭ আইসিসি ট্রফির বিজেতা বাংলাদেশ সেই ম্যাচে প্রথমে ব্যাট করতে নেমে ৯ উইকেট খুইয়ে ২২৩ রান করে। ম্যাচে সর্বোচ্চ ৪২ রান করেন আক্রাম খান। পাকিস্তানের হয়ে পাঁচ উইকেট নেন সাকলেন মুস্তাক এবং ২ উইকেট নেন ওয়াকার ইউনিস। পাকিস্তানের কাছে জয় সহজ মনে হলেও বাংলাদেশের বোলিং রুখে দাঁড়ায় তাঁদের বিপক্ষে। বাংলাদেশে বোলিংয়ের সমবেত চেষ্টায় মাত্র ১৬১ রানে অলআউট হয়ে যায় পাকিস্তান। সেই ম্যাচে ৩ টি উইকেট নেন খালেদ মাহমুদ, ১ টি করে উইকেট নেন শফিউদ্দিন আহমেদ, মোহাম্মদ রফিক, মিনহাজুল আবেদীন, মিনহাজুল আবেদীন।
