এবারের এশিয়া কাপের মূল আয়োজক পাকিস্তান। কিন্তু দুই দেশের রাজনৈতিক সম্পর্কের কথা মাথায় রেখে পাকিস্তানে দল পাঠাতে রাজি হয়নি বিসিসিআই। যা নিয়ে ক্ষুব্ধ হয়ে ভারতে বিশ্বকাপে দল পাঠাতে রাজি ছিল না পিসিবি। পরে অবশ্য পিসিবি নরম হয়। চলতি বছর এশিয়া কাপে ভারত তাদের সব ম্যাচ খেলছে শ্রীলঙ্কায়।
