বহুজন সমাজবাদী দলের উত্তরসূরী ঘোষণা করলেন বিএসপি নেত্রী মায়াবতী। নতুন মুখ হিসেবে তিনি ঘোষণা করলেন তারই ভাগ্নে আকাশ আনন্দের নাম।
বর্তমানে আকাশ আনন্দ বিএসপির জাতীয় কোঅর্ডিনেটর হিসেবে যুক্ত রয়েছেন। যদিও মায়াবতী জানিয়েছেন যে উত্তরপ্রদেশ এবং উত্তরাখন্ডের দায়িত্বে থাকছেন তিনি। অন্যান্য রাজ্যের ক্ষেত্রে দায়িত্ব দেওয়া হচ্ছে আকাশ আনন্দকে।
